Krazy Horse Quilt Show

The 2010 Krazy Horse Quilt Show will be held May 1 and 2, 2010 at the Pendleton Convention Center.
The featured quilter will be Eddie Walker from Walla Walla, WA. A renowned wood carving artist and quilter, Eddie brings a new look at many traditional quilt patterns and uses fabrics in beautiful and non-traditional combinations.
The quilt pictured is this year's raffle quilt "Shared Stitches", an original adaptation of the traditional Broken Star block. The quilt measures 94" square and features an original verse done in redwork. The quilt was designed by myself and constructed by members of the Krazy Horse Quilt group.
New for the 2010 quilt show will be a quilt contest featuring poster size quilts (24" x 36") that commemorate the Pendleton Round-Up's 100th anniversary.
The annual rodeo has been the center of the community's social life over the years and the creative possibilities are endless. Requirements for the contest are minimal to attract a more diverse contest. Cash prizes will be available and the quilts will be shown throughout the year at quilt shows and events. Don't miss this opportunity to be "a little Western" with your quilting!!
Check krazyhorsequilters.org for more details about the show, our challenge and other exciting ideas! |

A Quilter's Legacy

A Quilter’s Legacy
Rotary blade long dull,
this name gone from memory;
Who will sing my song?
What tales will spin my deeds?
The color of fire, dark of night, searing sun and fields of green.
Scattered squares amid swirling line and angle;
given form and name once colors are in place.
High spirits in command
lead disarray into history that will tell my story.
Blaze on reds, brood purple brood, stand faithful blue and calm my world green.
Work magic with the lines,
dancing rows and patterns a marching band frozen in time,
Lockstep line and color fuse visions of now for observers in the future.
Will they hear my call “Take me to town red!; light me up yellow; wavin’ in the wind green; hold steady brown; get out of my way orange; my heart is broken blue.
No safe, sane and exacting days and nights of life in My Day;
cut and stitched tales of a life that was electric, exhilarating and exhausting; creating crammed into life.
“When I am famous orange; pour me another drink purple; walk on me brown” These are the true blue buddies in a white on white life.
What will it be for me? Life is all sewn up with stitches,
each day what I make of it.
Color and design the mirrors of my soul,
inspiration surrounds me,
deep comfort in the company I keep.
They will sing the song of plenty, share a jump for joy,
and tell of love for the life that was.........
These quilts will speak my name and tell my story.

Laughing in the Cabin Retreat

Each April the Laughing in the Cabin Retreat is held at the Mazama Country Inn in Mazama, WA.
Registrations are available from Laughing Lizzie's, or by calling Colleen.
If you are looking for a weekend to get away from your winter blahs and seriously feed your creative and giving inner quilter, this retreat offers you the perfect combination of peaceful surroundings, expert assistance, powerful inspiration and the support of new found friends. There is no set workshop or pattern for participants - each person can work on her own ideas. Patterns and ideas will be available for those of you seeking inspiration.
The lodge has all the amenities, the rooms are very nice - a quilt on every bed - the food delicious and the setting is in the magnificent Methow Valley of North Central Washington.
Classes are woven into a sewing weekend of projects chosen by each person; a very unstructured and relaxed weekend that revives your body and creative quilter soul! Patterns by Colleen will be available for quilters who need to start something new!
The quilt pictured is "Thicket" - a new idea from Laughing Lizzie - it is a great table topper or throw size top. Each year a new idea is premiered for the retreat, with a free handout to all who participate!
Dates for 2010 are April 16, 17 & 18 - be sure and add this to your calendar for next year! )
The quilters who come to a retreat are truly responsible for the event becoming a success. The group of ladies who have been coming to Mazama has changed each year, with new ideas and faces adding to our weekend. Each and every one of the retreaters has been inspirational in the creative department and comforting in the personal sense of support and appreciation for one another's efforts. All skill levels participate as equals, sharing ideas, thoughts, and lots of laughter!
